DUE TO COVID-19, it had become necessary to abruptly change M/Y Cloudbreak’s schedule when in Phuket, Thailand. Having been on the island for several weeks, we had enjoyed some great cruising as well as support from Gordon Fernandes and the Asia Pacific Superyachts (APS) team.
The cruising M/Y Cloudbreak arrived in the Port of Galle, Sri Lanka, on 24 May for a 48-hour stopover for fuel and provisions amidst strict COVID-19 restrictions. As such, the crew were unable to enjoy their land stay as the health authorities could only grant permission for the boat to enter the port to receive supplies.
Other challenges popped up, too. Priyantha Perera, head of Asia Pacific Superyachts, said: “We did face a few challenges during her short stay.”
“A repair team from the Caterpillar agents wasn’t able to board the boat to carry out repairs. They had been informed by the health authorities that if any of their staff was to board the boat, they would have to undergo 14 days quarantine at a centre set up by the government.”
“We were, however, able to deliver the required spares and the Caterpillar agents provided remote assistance to the chief engineer so they could carry out the repairs.
Captain Jerry noted, “We also faced an issue due to the government declaring a curfew at short notice. Shops were closed, which resulted in the delivery being delayed by a day.
“We agreed to accept the late provisions and were pleased with them. We were pleased to finally overcome all the obstacles and get the good vessel well on its way.
“It was great to visit Sri Lanka; hopefully we’ll do it again.
