Fact file: Fiji

Fiji occupies an archipelago of 330 islands, ranging from coral atolls to large volcanic islands, making for an exciting adventure aboard a superyacht.

FIJI IS AN ISLAND NATION east of Vanuatu, west of Tonga, and south of Tuvalu.

About a hundred islands are inhabited, while many of the rest are used as fishing bases and planting grounds. The two major islands, Viti Levu and Vanua Levu, account for 87 percent of the population, with the majority living on Viti Levu in Suva, the capital.

Other important towns on Vitu Levi include Nadi (the location of the international airport), and Lautoka (a seaport). The main towns on Vanua Levu are Labasa and Savusavu.

Other islands and island groups include Taveuni and Kadavu, the Mamanuca Group and the Yasawa Group, the Lomaiviti Group, and the remote Lau Group.

Fiji offers yacht guests and crew a tropical paradise of coconut palm islands, powder-soft beaches, and rainforest waterfalls in the lush green hills. Flooded canyons glow blue in the rugged mountains, and under the water, soft corals abound in the warm, clear sea. The islands are also a superb destination for pampering, with luxury spa resorts and restaurants catering to the elite visitor.

Fiji is the perfect superyacht cruising destination: it has beautiful islands, secluded anchorages, welcoming people, excellent marinas, and a mature superyacht support service industry.

It is therefore rapidly becoming the superyacht hub of the western South Pacific; a fact demonstrated by the number of large superyachts visiting the country in recent years as cruising and chartering regulations have been relaxed.
